Abstract

1,103,099. Cables. PHELPS DODGE COPPER PRODUCTS CORPORATION. 24 June, 1966, No. 28541/66. Heading HIA. A shielded electric cable includes a conductive core covered by a semi conductive thermoplastic layer of a copolymer of ethylene and an unsaturated ester incorporating carbon black and an anti-oxidant, and surrounded by a layer of polyethylene insulation. As shown, the conductive core 1 of copper and/or aluminium is covered by an extrudate of a copolymer of ethylene and ethyl acrylate or vinyl acetate, containing carbon black and polymerized trimethyldihydroquinoline or other anti-oxidant. The main insulation 3 consists of an extrudate of polyethylene and also contains the anti-oxidant. A further semi-conductive layer 4 of the same material as the layer 2 may be extruded over the layer 3. The outer layer may be replaced by a layer of tape.
