Abstract

947,158. Centrifugal governors. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE GENERALE DE MECANIQUE APPLIQUEE, S. I. G. M. A. March 9, 1960 [March 12, 1959], No. 8365/60. Heading G3B. [ Also in Divisions F1 and F2] In a fuel injection pump pistons in a fixed cylinder block 1 are reciprocated by means of a cam 7 rotated by a shaft 4 which also carries a centrifugal governor 30 the weights 31 of which move a member 27 axially. The member 27 engages a member 28 rotated by the shaft 4 and axially slidable therein, the member 28 being connected to a distributing valve 2 by means of pin 35 which engages a helical slot 36 and by means of a spring 29. Axial movement of the member 28 is opposed by springs 38, 39, 40 acting on the opposite end of the valve 2. Spring 38 engages the valve 2 directly and the springs 38, 39 engage a member 44 slidable on a shaft 45. The ends of the springs 38, 39, 40 seat on a member 46 which is engaged by a throttle lever 47 movable between stops 50, 51. For starting purposes the valve 2 is moved to the left by compressing spring 38 by means of lever 47. On starting up the engine the member 27 moves the member 28 and the valve 2 to the right compressing the spring 38 until the valve 2 engages the member 44. On increased speed the member 28 compresses the spring 29 while the valve 2 is held against axial movement by the springs 39, 40 so that the valve 2 is caused to move angularly with respect to the member 28 whereby the time of injection is varied. Further increase of speed causes the member 28 to move the valve 2 against the action of the springs 38, 39 whereby the quantity of fuel injected is reduced.
