A sleeve for covering a joint in a telephone cable is made in two parts 1, 2, of synthetic plastic, e.g. polyethylene, the parts being joined in a fluid-tight manner by tapered surfaces 5, 6 and held by a screw ring 8. The ends of the sleeve are sealed to the cable by rings 13 engaging conical seatings 12 held, together with packing washers 17 by cap nuts 14. All screw threads have a buttress profile. The interior may be pressurized by a valve 18.
