Abstract

946,573. Sampling. BOLIDENS GRUVAKTIEBOLAG. July 20, 1960 [July 21, 1959], No. 25251/60. Heading B8N. In sampling a freely falling and/or running stream of solid particles and/or liquid passing through a box 1, e.g. from an inlet 8 to an outlet 9, a sampling scoop 10 is passed, horizontally to and fro at a substantially constant speed, through the stream to collect a primary sample, through a variable slot 13 in the scoop. The scoop is connected to a swivelling arm 11 connected, above the top 6 of the box, to actuating mechanism 12 comprising an asynchronous motor and a gear-box. The primary sample flows down a rubber tube 14 and is discharged, downwardly outside the box 1, through an elbow tube 15 secured to the front 3 of the box. A pendulum 17 is pivoted, near its upper end, on a horizontal shaft 19 projecting from and secured to the front 3 of the box, and carries, at its lower end, a holder 22 comprising sampling shoots 23, 24 having variable slots 25, 26 at their upper ends. Above the shaft 19, the pendulum has an elbow-shaped extension with a horizontal arm 20 terminating in a vertical arm 21 which contacts the swivelling arm 11 and then escapes therefrom to initiate and sustain swinging of the pendulum. The swinging pendulum carries the shoots 23, 24 to and fro through the stream of the primary sample coming from the tube 15. Secondary samples, passing through the slots 25, 26, are diverted by the shoots into receivers 27, 28 carried in the holder 22. This has a removable base 29 facilitating removal and replacement of the receivers. The bottom of each receiver may be in the form of a detachable filter. The pendulum portion of the apparatus can be used, alone, for taking samples.
