Abstract

775,154. Washing air. AJEM LABORATORIES, Inc. April 5, 1955 [April 20, 1954], No. 9920/55. Class 55 (2). Air, particularly air containing particles of iron oxide &c. from scarfing operations, is washed in a stack up which the air passes at high velocity, the water being projected downwards by means which forms the major part of the water into drops of such size that they continue to fall under gravity. As shown, the air is aspirated by a fan 29 from a hood 2 connected to the stack 4, and nozzles 12 which are supplied by a pump 26, project the " rain " downwardly. The water is collected by a funnel 20 and returned to a settling tank 24. An air speed of 2000 feet per minute is mentioned. The air may be treated in a washer 6, which may be as described in Specification 754,927, before discharge to atmosphere, or may be discharged direct to atmosphere. The washer 6 is supplied with water by the pump 26, and the water returns to the tank 24. The nozzles 12 may be as described in Specification 724,617, [Group XXIX], and it is stated that the major part of the water is formed into drops having diameters between one-sixteenth and one-eighth inches. The washed air may be recirculated, in which case the washer 6 would be arranged within the building.
