Abstract

915,879. Centrifugal separators. BRAITHWAITE EQUIPMENT Ltd. July 17, 1961 [April 20, 1960], No. 13856/60. Class 23. [Also in Group I] A filtering apparatus comprises a rotatable centrifuging chamber 12 having a coaxial inlet passage 22 for liquid under pressure and at least one outlet passage 14 from the other end of the chamber and adjacent the axis of rotation, a tubular pervious filter element 34 coaxially within the chamber, such that its bore communicates with the outlet passage, but not directly with the interior of the chamber, while its outer surface is exposed to the part of the interior of the chamber with which the inlet passage communicates, and a belt drive from a motor 11 to rotate the chamber, a deflecting screen 32 being attached to the central part of a removable spider member 31 which has radial vanes forming a series of passages for incoming liquid. A detachable cover-plate 19 screwed on the top of the chamber is attached through roller bearings 23 to a lever 25 which is pivoted at 26 and clamped to a supporting frame 3, which is flexibly connected to three pairs of brackets 2 on a main support 1 by spring buffers. The chamber 12 is also supported in bearings in brackets 4, 5 rigidly mounted on the frame 3. The chamber 12 may be arranged with its axis inclined or horizontal and, when the axis is vertical or inclined, the inlet passage may be in the upper or lower end of the chamber.
