Abstract

884,812. Centrifugal separators. RUF, W. Jan. 31, 1958 [Feb. 1, 1957], No. 3238/58. Class 23. In apparatus for purifying liquid comprising a rotary bowl and a scraper within the bowl, the scraper and bowl rotate together during purification, and the scraper is rotated relative the bowl to clean deposits from the bowl wall. A shaft 8 driven by a belt 28 carries the scraper which comprises a disc 11 and blades 25. The hub 15 of the bowl 16 engages bearings 17 carried by a support 7 fixed to the cylindrical casing 3 which is carried above a feed tank 1. The bowl is connected by a free wheel device 12, 13 to the shaft 8 which carries an impeller 21 having on inlet 22. During purification the liquid is drawn into the bowl by the impeller, and purified liquid passes through a passage 19 in the bowl to be withdrawn from the bowl by a scoop 26. During cleaning rotation of the bowl is prevented by the engagement of a pin 29 with a socket 30, and the scraper is rotated by means of the belt or by means of a spanner.
