Abstract

901,448. Centrifugal separators. MACHINE SHOP EQUIPMENT Ltd. Oct. 17, 1960 [Oct. 22, 1959], No. 35824/59. Class 23. A centrifuge comprising a rotor 11 adapted to support one or more containers has means whereby liquid of preselected temperature may be caused to flow over or through the rotor during its rotation. Refrigerated liquid from a tank 16 is discharged on to the rotor by a pipe 17, is collected in a housing 10 rotating with the rotor, and is returned to the tank by a pipe 19. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the liquid flows through spiral passages arranged about the containers, is discharged from the rotor into a stationary housing, and is returned to the tank by a pump. In the Provisional Specification a construction is described in which the rotor is hollow and has an inwardly directed flange at its upper end, the containers depending from the flange into a body of heating or cooling liquid during rotation of the rotor. Temperature measuring means may be incorporated in the pipes leading from and to the tank.
