Abstract

858,521. Centrifugal separators. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 7, 1959 [April 9, 1958], No. 11221/58. Class 23 Apparatus comprises a rotary tubular member 5 into an end of which liquid is introduced by a pipe 10 to flow as a layer 14, a rotary component (not shown) connected by pipes 15 to receive the liquid from the layer to vaporize it, pipes 16 and a duct 17 leading the vapour to the axis of the member to form a core 19, and ducts 20 and pipes 21 discharging vapour from the core. The rotary component is cooled by vaporizing the liquid, and may comprise the rotary members of electrical machines. Any liquid in the vapour supplied to the core is returned to the layer. Make-up liquid may be supplied to the apparatus to replace the vapour discharged.
