Abstract

A motor for electrical cryogenic machines contains refrigeration channels for the coolant around the winding areas. The coolant circulation relies on the centrifugal force of the rotating winding chamber (6). This is cylindrical and carries the coils (4) directly on its inside surface, the chamber rotating on its own shaft (2) at one end and a tubular section (18) co-axial about a hollow fixed shaft (16) at the other. Coolant is injected from the fixed shaft (16) into the centre channel, the flow being towards the remote end of the rotor. Four radial channels (10) allow the coolant to be thrown outward and then back along the inside surface of the cylinder and electrical windings. Cooland is removed by an annular channel (28) over the injection shaft.
