Abstract
1,211,660. Liquid cooling of dynamo-electric machines. BENDIX CORP. 16 April, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 19418/69. Heading H2A. In a liquid cooled dynamo electric machine 1, e.g. a brushless generator driven by an hydraulic constant speed drive, comprising a housing 2 having two circumferentially extending grooves 15 and mounting a stator winding 7 and a rotor 3 having a winding 8 and a helical groove 27, and means interconnecting the housing and rotor grooves to provide a continuous liquid coolant circuit, the winding end turns are sprayed with the liquid by means communicating with the rotor groove, and a channel 55 is provided to drain the liquid from the housing. The latter means comprise, for the main generator 4, firstly small shaft openings 33 which convey the coolant, e.g. oil from the drive, to slingers 36 having peripheral slots 37, and secondly a circumferential groove 39, an opening 40, and a further groove 41 and channels 43 in a spider member 42, which lead to nozzles 44 axially in line with spacers 47 between the windings 8. The former, interconnecting, means comprise channels 18, 20 in a housing flange 19 and a sleeve bearing 21. The generator 4 has an exciter 5 embodying rectifiers 46 carried in a heat sink 45, and a permanent magnet generator 6.
