Abstract
<PICT:1077594/C6-C7/1> An open channel flow electroplating apparatus comprises a tank 12 having an annular electrolyte flow channel 14, formed by a baffle 10, and having at least one vertically mounted, high volume, low pressure centrifugal impeller 16 to induce a highly uniform rapid flow of electrolyte around the channel. A wire screen 20 may be positioned close to the outlet 22 and turning vanes 24 may be positioned at the opposite end of the central baffle to stabilize the flow of electrolyte. The impeller unit may comprise a plurality of impellers positioned one above the other Fig. 3 (not shown). The impeller may be positioned in a branch off the main tank, Fig. 4 (not shown).
