Abstract

946,225. Gain control arrangements. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 14, 1960 [March 17, 1959], No. 8904/60. Heading H3Q. In a two-stage R.C. coupled amplifier and more especially in one employing a double valve, in which a volume control P is incorporated between the valves, high frequencies reach the anode of the second valve from the anode of the first via the stray capacity Ca between the two anodes, even when the volume control P is at minimum. To prevent this breakthrough a neutralizing circuit is provided comprising a resistor R in the grid lead of the second valve, which in conjunction with the anode to grid capacity of the second valve and the stray capacity between the anode of the first valve and the grid of the second forms a T-network passing energy of opposite phase to the anode of the second valve. A mathematical expression is given in the Specification relating to the factors involved.
