Abstract
946,012. Stabilizing photographic images. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. March 6, 1962 [March 6, 1961], No. 8629/62. Heading G2C. Positive images which are formed by transferring unoxidised dye developer from the non- image areas of an exposed silver halide emulsion to an image receiving sheet containing polyvinyl acohol, a copolymer thereof or a polymer containing free hydroxyl groups which can be converted to polyvinyl alcohol, are treated with a borate solution for protection against sunlight. Polyvinyl alcohol, a saccharide,anhydro-ennaleptatol,the diortho tolyl guanidine salt of dicatechol borate or a quaternary ammonium compound of Specification 938, 865 may be added to the borate solution to increase the stabilizing effect. Specified compounds yielding the borate ion in aqueous solution are ortho-, meta-, tetra- or ferboric acid, borax, potassium borate, sodium perborate and boric acid esters. The compounds are generally applied from aqueous. solution but may be applied from organic solvents, e.g. ethanol, glycerol and acetone. Specifications 804, 971, 804, 972 and 853, 479 also are referred to.
