Abstract

944,992. Haymaking machines. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. Nov. 9, 1960 [Nov. 28, 1959], No. 38509/60. Heading A1F. A tedder comprises a frame 1 carrying a rotatable tined crop-working member 6 which is rotated by a non-positive transmission and is provided with helical rows of tines arranged so that at least one tine is always in ground-contact. The frame is U-shaped in plan with vertically-adjustable swivel-wheels 4, 5 at the ends of the limbs, one wheel 5 being a simple castor and the other 4 being lockable for direction-control of the implement. The member 6 comprises a hollow shaft 14 rotatable in stub-axles on the frame, the shaft having integral rings 15, 16, 17, 18 between which are secured helical strips 21, 23. Pairs of tines 34, 35 are bolted to the shaft 14 to extend outwardly through holes in the strips and thereafter to be bent backwardly tangentially and outwardly again to form prongs 37. The frame 1 includes an integral forwardly projecting shaft 7 to which is pivoted, at 9, a drawbar 8, the drawbar being adjustable about the pivot 9 and being lockable by a detent and sector 64, 62, so that the frame may be drawn with the member 6 either perpendicular or oblique to the direction of travel in working, or parallel thereto for transport. A jointed transmission shaft 5 connects a stub-shaft 48 with a tractor power take-off (not shown). The transmission between the shaft 48 and a pulley 41, integral with the shaft 14, comprises a belt or rope 42 passing around pulleys 43, 44, 45, the whole shaft 48 being bodily displaceable for belttensioning (Fig. 8, not shown). The shaft 59 rests in a clip 65a on the drawbar when out of use. Specification 944,991 is referred to.
