944,778. Pumping volatile liquids. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. May 28, 1962 [May 30, 1961], No. 20482/62. Heading FIR. . A tank 2 containing volatile liquid at about atmospheric pressure is emptied by creating a reduced pressure in a separator 5 connected thereto, by condensing the vapour separated from the liquid in a heat exchanger 8. The heat exchanger may comprise a cylinder within the separator or, as shown, be separate therefrom. The condensate may be returned to the tank by a line 13, or discharged by a pump 14 to the outlet side of the liquid pump 11. The return line 13 may include a non-return valve 17 and/or be controlled by a hand or automatically controlled cock. Specification 904,382 is referred to.
