Abstract

995,128. Raising liquids by heating. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 5, 1961 [Oct. 12, 1960], No. 34886/60. Heading F1R. [Also in Division F4] A fluid circulating system includes pressure vessels 15, 16, 17 which discharge in sequence into a line 10 and so into the system, the tanks being replenished with liquid from a tank 19 into which condensate from the system is discharged. When a vessel, say the vessel 15, becomes filled with liquid the pressure therein rises owing to the heating effect of coils 14. The liquid eventually boils and the vapour produced displaces an equal volume of liquid through the valve 23a into the line 10. The consequent reduction in pressure in the vessel allows valve 22c to be closed by differential pressure in the vessels 15, 17 thus allowing a pressure build-up and subsequent liquid discharge into the system from vessel 17. Discharge of vessel 17 results in the closure of valve 22b and permits pressure build-up and eventual liquid discharge from vessel 16. Discharge of liquid from vessel 16 results in the closure of valve 22a allowing pressure build-up and eventual liquid discharge from vessel 15 as before. Hence the valves 22a, b and c are operated in sequence by the respective vessels 16, 17, 15.
