Abstract

942,087. Rotary vane pumps and motors. F. J. WILLIAMS, and E. June 6, 1962 [March 8, 1961], No. 8395/61. Heading F1F. A rotary fluid motor of the outwardly sliding vane type (Fig. 2) has two inlets 15, 17 and two outlets 16,18, one of each of which is used for each direction of rotation. To facilitate starting, an impeller 34 (Fig. 1) is mounted on the drive shaft at each end of the rotor and is driven by fluid which passes from it to one of the inlet ports. The rotor preferably comprises a central cylindrical portion and two end portions 24, each end portion (Fig. 3) comprising a disc-shaped flange 25, a stub shaft 26 extending from it in one axial direction and a spigot 27 extending in the other axial direction to engage a bore in the central portion. The three portions are held together by tubes 28 passing through corresponding holes in the portions and, optionally, by dowels. The motor may also operate as a fluid pump.
