Abstract
1,092,548. Rotary compressors and pumps. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Oct. 8, 1965 [Oct. 13, 1964], No. 42760/65. Heading F1F. To permit lateral adjustment between a rotary sliding vane compressor or pump and the prime mover, e.g. a fractional H.P. electric motor, driving it, an annular flange 14, Fig. 1, secured to the prime mover casing is formed with a V- groove 47 into which conically-ended screws 46 carried by an inner end body member 37 of the compressor or pump are adjustably screwed. The compressor or pomp comprises a vaned rotor 17 eccentrically mounted in a central body member 27 and having a bore convergingly tapered at 53, 54 from its two ends formed with a key-way 22 to engage a key 19 to enable the rotor to run with a minimum of wobble and with a substantially constant clearance between end faces 34, 36, which may be of carbon, on the inner and outer end body members 37, 38 respectively. To permit adjustment of the rotor 17 within the cavity of the central body member 27 and to allow a small clearance between the rotor and the cavity bore 24 at a location between the inlet and outlet ports, a pair of diametrically disposed pilot screws screwed into the inner body member 37 pass with clearance through holes in the central body member 27. When adjustment is made screws 39 connect the inner and outer body members 37, 38 and the central body member 27 together. The vanes 23, Fig. 3 (not shown) which may be of carbon slide in slots 18 located on chords to the centre of rotation of the rotor shaft 16. The pump may be used as a vacuum pump.
