Abstract

1520177 Rotary positive displacement compressors BORG-WARNER CORP 15 April 1976 [16 April 1975 (3) 9 Feb 1976] 15766/76 Heading F1F In a sliding vane compressor (having non-radial vanes 34 as shown), the vane slots 30 communicate, between the suction 38 and delivery ports 42 with an arcuate port 68 in a side plate 18, the port 68 being intermittently connected to an oil sump 70 via a passage 66, interrupter means 64 and pipe 62. The interrupter means is a rotary disc 63 having apertures 65 therein and mounted on drive shaft 22. An arcuate recess 90 with a radial extension 92 in the end plate 18 prevents locking of the vanes in a retracted position by connecting the vane slots to the suction space. The disc 63 controls the extent of communication of the vane slots with oil at outlet pressure and thus when the compressor is stopped limits reverse movement of the rotor due to the oil in the vane slots. Oil trapped in the vane slots after an aperture 65 passes passage 66 will be forced past the vanes.
