Abstract

A metal composition for use in the manufacture of resistance welding or spark machining electrodes comprises a pressed, sintered and repressed compact of Cu, Ni, Ag or Al metal powder in which is dispersed 0.05-30 volume per cent of Zr, Cr and/or Ti oxide powder, the oxide particles being oriented in lamina strata. The oxide particles are below 10 microns, preferably 5-10 microns, F.A.P.S. (Fischer Sub Sieve Sizes). The compact is made by forming the mixture of powders, heating in a reducing atmosphere, pressing to form the compact, sintering and repressing, preferably in the same direction as the original pressing, so that the oxide particles are oriented in laminar strata.
