Abstract

1300264 Insulating materials DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 20 May 1970 [21 May 1969] 24516/70 Heading H1A [Also in Division C1] A composition for pressing into an insulating material is formed from (a) a fused or sintered particulate material comprising magnesium oxide and (b) particulate silica gel, the silica gel increasing the resistance of the resulting insulating material. The insulating material may be used to fill a tubular electrical heating element having an electrical heating coil passing therethrough or ceramic insulators may be formed by pressing and sintering the composition. The material comprising magnesium oxide preferably contains at least 94% by weight of magnesium oxide, and the silica gel is preferably 0À1% to 7% of the weight of the composition. The silica gel may have a maximum particle dimension of less than 370 Á, preferably less than 70 Á and may have a specific surface area of 50 to 1100 m.<SP>2</SP>/g.
