Abstract

A multi-layer coating on a surface comprises a bituminous layer adjacent to the surface, at least one slab of rigid foamed plastics material adhering thereto, at least one heat insulating layer of sheathing felt and/or glass fibres adhering to the slab, and an upper layer, adhering to the insulating layer, of which at least the upper part is a grit-containing bituminous material. The surface may be of iron, steel, nickel or aluminium e.g. a ship's deck and a bituminous primer may first be applied thereto.
