983,071. Road surface units; roads. BRISTOL AEROPLANE PLASTICS Ltd. Dec. 22, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 10133/60. Headings E1B and E1G. [Also in Division B5] A panel for forming the surface of a road or runway comprises a core 2 of various described foamed plastics to which are bonded facing sheets 4, 6 of metal, or fibre or wire reinforced resin. The panel has wavy edges, the waves being arcuate as shown, square, V-shaped, or dovetailed. The edges are also provided with a compressible rubber sealing tube 14. Adjacent panels are joined by an underlying strip 20 having pins 18 fitting into holes 21 in the panels, the pins being locked to the panels by an overlying strip 26. The upper facing sheet 4 may be twice the thickness of the lower sheet 6 and the core 2 may be preformed, or is allowed to set between the facing sheets.
