Abstract
<PICT:0939977/III/1> <PICT:0939977/III/2> <PICT:0939977/III/3> In a boiler feed water system, a de-aerator comprises a chamber having a steam inlet in the lower part thereof; a water inlet terminating in a plurality of nozzles each having an upwardly facing outlet aperture in which is disposed a weighted valve member which lifts under water pressure to provide a variable gap between said aperture and said member, said member being so shaped that escaping water forms an umberella-like spray, and said nozzles being so arranged that the sprays overlap to form a complete barrier through which the steam passes; an outlet for uncondensed steam leading directly to the atmosphere; and an outlet for de-aerated feed water. In the illustrated embodiment (Fig. 1), boiler feed water is introduced through the side of the de-aerator through pipe 12 connected to a plurality of nozzles 15 of the type shown in Fig. 2 situated in a shroud 20. Uncondensed steam and non-condensable gases are vented through baffle box 25 and pipe 26. The feed water falls into a series of alternately circular and annular perforated trays between which there is further contact of the water with the steam introduced from the feed tank 23 into which the de-aerated water falls through antiflash device 24. Each nozzle 15 comprises a weighted head 17 which is vertically movable in body portion 18 into which the feed is introduced. Vanes 19 retain the head in a vertical position. Specification 638,627 is referred to. p
