939,940. Toothed gearing. CAM GEARS Ltd. Feb. 22, 1960 [Feb. 25, 1959], No. 6548/59. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXXI] In a rack-and-pinion steering gear, the rack 1 is slidably supported against transverse movement by a component 6 separate from and mounted on a housing 5, the component being located by a positioning surface co-operating direct or through shims 8 with a surface on the housing. A spring-loaded pad 9 is interposed between the rack 1 and the component 6 which may be of metal or plastic and is secured by bolts 11. The rack is slidably supported in bearings at the outer ends of tubular extensions to the casing 5 and is connected by universal joints and drag links to the wheels. The spring-loaded pad 9 may be omitted.
