Abstract

827,227. Steering vehicles. VINTEN Ltd., W., and VINTEN, W. P. Feb. 4, 1958 [Feb. 5, 1957], No. 3894/57. Class 79(5) A steering mechanism for a vehicle such as a camera dolly has two steered wheels 13, 14 moved through transmission means by a single control member 36 which is capable of being rotated continuously to any desired extent in either direction and is connected to the transmission means in such a manner that when the wheels 13, 14 are deflected their axes intersect each other at a point which lies in or close to the axis of the non-steered wheels 11, 12. The member 36 rotates a chain 33 carried by a pair of sprocket 29, 30 mounted on a sliding bar 28 which is displaced simultaneously with the rotation of the chain by a cam 37 co-operating with a fixed follower 39 and secured to the shaft of the member 36. Unequal angular movements are thus imparted to sprockets 34 and 35 in mesh with opposite sides of the chain 33 and by further chain and sprocket drives 26, 27 to the wheels 13, 14. A single endless chain is employed in an alternative construction. The chain, the cam and the member 36 may be replaced by spur gears, an eccentric and a steering wheel, respectively.
