939,754. Measuring tapes. ETABLISSEMENTS QUENOT & CIE. July 24, 1962 [Jan. 25, 1962], No. 28360/62. Class 106 (2). A measuring tape device with a spring rewind, adapted for measuring the height of people, has a coiled tape 4 reversely graduated so that when the end of the tape is fixed (by means of a nail 7 through a hole 6) a given height from the floor, with the L-bracket 9 carrying the housing 3 resting on the floor, a zero reading is obtained in the window 5, the height from the floor to which the bracket is subsequently raised being then directly observed. A reference mark 8 is provided in the window for accurate reading, and the outlet slot for the tape is grooved for accurate guiding. At the zero mark the tape has notches 19 co-operating with projections 20 in the housing for locking the tape in the fullyextended " zero " position.
