Abstract

882,640. Measures of length. LJUNGBERG, T. A. Feb. 19, 1960 [March 18, 1959], No. 5945/60. Class 106 (2). A slide 16 can be displaced into a channelshaped guide 14 through which runs a steelmeasuring tape 7, so flattening the arcuate cross-section of the tape to force the tape's edges into engagement with the lateral edges of the guide, thereby locating the tape against displacement. The slide is normally positioned by a spring 19, with its downwardly-bent front end 17 in an intermediate position a in which the tape is merely frictionally held; but. by actuation of a lever 21, that end 17 may be moved, either to a position b in which the tape is further flattened and more securely held, or to a position c, in which the tape can slide freely in its guide. One end of the lever is pivoted in a hole 22 in a lug 23 on an extension 15 of the guide; and an aperture 25 between the ends of the lever is engaged by a pin 26 punched out from the slide. Measurements are made between lug 8 on the end of the tape and lug 9 on the case; and the tape may be graduated for the reading of measurements at the point X where the tape emerges from the case.
