Abstract

The measuring tape (14) is coiled within a housing (1) and extracted through a slot in the latter with a sliding element (4), movable perpendicular to the displacement of the tape (14), positioned adjacent the slot, to block the tape (14). The interior of the housing (1) has guide means (2, 3) for the sliding element (4) and a spring (5) for biasing it towards the tape (14). A push-button (7) is pivoted to the outside of the housing (1) and coupled t the sliding element (4), so that when the push-button (7) is depressed, the sliding element (4) moves away from the tape (14) which is then free to move. The sliding element (4) pref. has a shoulder (9), which is acted on by a tongue (10) extending from the push-button (7).
