Abstract
939,662. Prepayment gas meters. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 10, 1960 [June 12, 1959], No. 20278/59. Class 27. [Also in Group XXIX] A shut-off or inlet valve assembly for prepayment gas meters comprises a resilient valve pad 5 coacting with a seat 7 and secured between a disc 1 and washer 6 by a cylindrical body 2 which is formed with a conical or spherical seating 10 for a ball 12 by which the disc is universally mounted on a lever 16 fixed on a spindle 17, a rod 11 on which the ball is mounted being adjustably secured to the lever 16. The ball, which may alternatively be a half ball, is loaded by a compression spring 13 seating over an annulus 15, or on a flat or hollow surface in the case of a half ball, whereby the lever 16 can continue movement in the valve closing direction after the valve pad 5 has engaged its seat to close ultimately an auxiliary valve 21 which passes a restricted flow through a filter 25, consisting of a gauze casing containing cotton wool &c. and a nozzle 24. The pivotal centre of the ball joint may lie in the plane of the operative face of the valve pad or forward of that plane, i.e. on the side of the pad remote from the lever 16, as shown.
