Abstract
939,488. Hand-tool handles. SUNDT & CO. Ltd. July 28, 1961 [July 28, 1960], No. 26371/60. Class 61. A hollow handle made of polythene &c. for a kitchen tool has an elongated part 1 open at the end 4 and tapered in a direction away from the open end to receive a correspondingly tapered plug 6 in which the rear end of the tool is held against axial movement. The plug is formed in two diametrically bisected halves grooved at 8 or otherwise formed on opposed flat engaging faces to receive rods or bars extending rearwardly from the implement. The ends of the grooves are outwardly directed at 9 to prevent axial movement of the tool. An annular flange 7 is provided on each half of the plug 6 to be received in an annular recess 5 at the end of the handle. A key or spline (not shown) is moulded to project from the inner surface of the end 4 of the handle and is received in a corresponding groove in the outer periphery of the plug 6. The two halves of the plug are fixed together by adhesive and adhesive may be used for fixing the plug in the handle. In a modification a ring is moulded around the plug and is received with snap action in a corresponding groove formed in the inner periphery of the handle at the end 4. Parallel grooves 2 are formed to facilitate hand grip.
