Abstract

820,034. Screwdrivers. HOBBINS, F. Jan. 3, 1958 [Oct. 4, 1956], No. 30322/56. Class 61. A screwdriver is provided with an open ended guide sleeve 16 axially slidable on the blade end of the shank 12 and retained by a small collet 17 which is adjustable along the shank and which coacts with at least one abutment on the sleeve to limit the axial movement of the sleeve. As shown the collet 17 is a spring fit on the shank and is received within a cut-away portion of the sleeve, the limits of the free axial movement of the sleeve being determined by abutments 23, 24 at the end of the cut-away. The outer end of the sleeve is bevelled. In a modification the sleeve is retained on the shank by a retaining sleeve surrounding the inner part of its length and engaging with an annular shoulder on its exterior which retaining sleeve is formed as a collet at its inner end to tightly engage the shank.
