641,047. Circlips. ABBEY, A. (Ramsey Corporation). June 15, 1948, No. 16121. [Class 89(ii)] Circlips, either for expanding into a groove as in a housing, or for contracting into a groove as in a shaft, are formed from spring steel as a twin-coil helix with an offset connecting portion e<2>. Fig. 3 shows an expanding ring and the ends taper at e towards rounded ends e<1> that provide for the application of a tool such as a screwdriver to permit the circlip to be worked out of its groove, In the case of a contracting ring the taper is formed on the inner side. In a modification the ends have arcuate recesses and in a further form suitable for either type of clip the ends are provided with slots.
