Abstract

945,794. Hand tool handles. SUNDT & CO. Ltd. April 25, 1961 [March 11, 1960], No. 8757/60. Heading B4K. A means for securing a handle to a broom or for supporting the handle when the broom is not in use, comprises a cup-shaped ferrule moulded from synthetic plastics material and having at least two splines on the inner surface, which splines taper in width from the closed end to the open end of the ferrule, so as to be adapted to be received by wedge action in slots formed at corresponding positions in the end of the handle to which the ferrule is to be secured. As shown, the end e of the handle is reduced in section and formed with a diametrical slot f which receives the splines b of the ferrule. An external screw thread c on the ferrule is adapted to engage in a similar screw-threaded socket in the head of a broom. The handle is covered with a coating sleeve d, a portion h overlapping the shoulder at the reduced diameter end of the handle. In a modification, pointed projections are formed around the circumferential edge of the ferrule; the projections bite into the overlap of the sleeve.
