Abstract
939,415. Reciprocating pumps. LOWRY HYDRAULIC CO. Aug. 29, 1960 [Sept. 4, 1959], No. 29734/60. Class 102(1). In a deep-well pump a bucket is reciprocated by a hydraulically-actuated, double-acting piston 6, Fig. 1a, housed in a cylinder 5 located at the bottom of the well. Cylinder 5 has longitudinally-fluted sides, Fig. 3, to enable the pumped liquid to. flow past. The bucket 10, Fig. 2, has bores for the passage of rigid, hydraulic fluid supply pipes 9 on which the bucket is slidable. Longitudinal bores 4 formed in the side wall of cylinder 5 connect one supply pipe 9 to the bottom of cylinder 5. The cylinder is partially supported on a non-return, ball-valve housing 2 secured to the bottom of the well casing. Two ball valves 17 are provided in bucket 10. The pump unit is suspended by supply pipes 9 from a yoke 11 suspended in turn on a cable 13. Flexible hoses connect pipes 9 to suitable pump and control means above ground. Several pumps may be arranged in series with common hydraulic supply pipes.
