Abstract

The invention comprises the 17-acyloxy-9a , 10a -epoxy-19-nor-androst-4-en-3-ones of the formula: <FORM:0936894/IV(a)/1> wherein OAc represents an acyloxy radical, and a process for the preparation thereof in which a 3b -methyl-7-keto-8b -(g -keto-butyl)-8a ,9a -epoxy-3a , 4b - [31-acyloxy-(21,11) -cyclopentano]-decahydronaphthalene compound of the formula: <FORM:0936894/IV(a)/2> is cyclised by reaction with an alkali metal acylate, in the presence of the hydroxide of the same metal, so as to yield the corresponding 17b -acyloxy derivative of 9a ,10a -epoxy-19-nor-androst-4-en-3-one.
