Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula:-<FORM:0912952/IV (b)/1> (wherein Y represents a single or double linkage between C1 and C2, R is an alkyl, alkenyl or alkinyl radical of up to five carbon atoms, and R1 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon carboxylic acyl group of less than 13 carbons), together with a process for their preparation by treating a corresponding 5b ,10b -oxido- or 5a -fluoro-10b -hydroxy-compound which is saturated at C1-C2 with a strong alkali or perchloric acid and optionally obtaining the C1-C2 unsaturated compound by a standard chemical or microbiological dehydrogenating method. Detailed examples illustrate the invention. The compounds exhibit anabolic and anti-estrogenic activity. Specification 912,951 is referred to.
