Abstract

936,618. Developing electrostatic images. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. April 11, 1960 [April 24, 1959], No. 12911/60. Class 98 (2). An electrostatic image on an insulating or photoconductive surface is developed by heating finely divided electroscopic developer particles dispersed in an insulating thermoplastic material having a melting point within the range of 50‹ to 200‹ C. to melt at least a portion of the developer and contacting molten developer across the image-bearing surface to produce a visible image. The developer may be melted and applied by a heated roller, a heated doctor blade or by heating a solid developer-bearing sheet in contact with the image bearing surface, or by passing an image-bearing sheet having developer along one margin beneath a heated roller. The developer particles may be carbon black or other pigments or dyes, alone or with vinyl chloride-acetate copolymer particles and dimethyl polysiloxane dispersed in paraffin wax, carnauba wax, microcrystalline wax, non- crystalline hydrocarbon waxes, or gum rosin, any of which may be mixed with a thermoplastic hydrocarbon terpene resin, chlorinated bi- and poly-phenols, stearic acid or polythene.
