[Also in Group XXIII] A rotary cutter comprises a disc 6 formed with one or more peripheral recesses 10, 11 within each of which is located a cutter blade 15 having its cutting edge 21 disposed outwardly of the periphery of the disc and a locking plate 16 which engages the back face of the blade, abuts a projection 18 on said face, and has rearwardly-extending lugs 19, 20 engaging flanges 7, 8 or projections 7a, 8a formed on the respective sides of the disc at its periphery. Each blade and locking plate are clamped in the recess by a wedge 12 adjustable outwardly by a screw 13. When re-grinding the blade, the plate 16 is turned through 180 degrees so that the lower inclined end face 23 has the same amount removed as the blade face 22 and, when the plate is returned to its original position, the distance of the cutting edge 21 from the projections 19, 20 and the projection of the cutting edge from the periphery of the disc are therefore unchanged. If desired, the lugs 19, 20 may additionally project forwardly from the plate 16 to engage in channel members on the back face of the blade or embrace the side edges of the blade. Accurate location of the blade may be effected by providing a pin-andslot or projection-and-groove interengagement between the blade and plate 16. To prevent injury to the hand of an operator, a guard plate 35 may be clamped between the wedge 12 and forward wall of the recess.
