Abstract
831,538. Broaching. WEATHERLAY OILGEAR Ltd. June 7, 1956, No. 17693/56. Class 83 (3). A broaching-tool comprises at least one cutter 12 having a cutting form 25 which is relieved at a definite angle, and an alignment face 26 relieved at the same angle, so that, when the cutting edge is ground, material is simultaneously removed from an end of the alignment face to maintain the edge at a constant distance from the cutting form. Several such left-hand cutters 12 are secured to a block 10, which is clamped to a holder 6 by screws 27. The screws 27 also move wedges 28 to press the alignment face 26 against a reference block 16, which is initially adjusted by a co-operating wedge 17. A series of right-hand cutters 13 is also mounted similarly in the holder 6, together with a series of roughing cutters 7, to produce V-grooves 1, Fig. 1, in a turbine disc, the other cutters combining to finish the fir-tree grooves 2. In modifications, the whole broach is made in one piece, or the wedges 28 are operated separately, or left- and right-hand cutters alternate on the holder.
