[Also in Division B5] A cutter comprises a body 1 having sockets for detachable knives 3, each knife having a reference surface 10 slidable along a corresponding surface 11 in the socket for contacting a substantially radially inward facing shoulder 4 on the knife with a substantially radially outward facing shoulder 5 on the cutter body, and a screw, key or other means for pressing each knife on the one hand with its reference surface against the socket surface and on the other with its shoulder against the cutter body shoulder. The surface 11 is at an angle α of less than 75 degrees, and preferably 45 degrees, to the axis of the screw 6 so that, when the screw is tightened, the surface 10 on the knife slides along surface 11 to permit the shoulder 4 to firmly abut the shoulder 5. Each knife has a cutting plate 12 of sintered carbide and a recess 18 may be formed in the surface to ensure accurate abutment of the surfaces. A limiter 16 may be secured to the cutter body in front of each knife by a screw 17. Each knife may be held by more than one screw and the screw or screws may have springs for holding the knives during tightening. Projections on the knives or body may determine the axial positions of the knives. The cutter may be a slot cutter, facing cutter or profile cutter.
