Abstract

935,059. Valves. SCOVILL MANUFACTURING CO. June 25, 1962, No. 24306/62. Class 135. A valve for controlling the flow of fluids comprises a body member 10 having a chamber 11, inlet and outlet passages 12, 13, a hollow plunger 14 closed at its ends and having longitudinally spaced openings 14a, 14b, 14c, and a spring 15 biasing the plunger to a position whereat the interior of the plunger communicates with the inlet 12 and is isolated from the outlet 13, the plunger being manually movable in opposition to the spring to establish progressively increased communication between the interior of the plunger and the outlet while maintaining communication between the plunger interior and the inlet. In the preferred embodiment, the body is an aluminium diecasting with a pivoted lever 16 of U-shaped section to actuate the valve through a plunger pin 17. 0-ring packings 18, 18a held in spaced relation by a spring 19 form a fluid-tight seal with the plunger. Latching means may be provided between the lever and the gun to hold the plunger in the position at which it gives the required rate of flow.
