Abstract

1,021,456. Valves. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 21, 1963, No. 33114/63. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F4] A valve for use in a refrigeration system (see Division F4) comprises a cylindrical body 15, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), having chambers 16 and 17 connected to inlet and outlets 20 and 21 respectively, and joined by a port 18 controlled by a solenoid-operated needle valve 19. A third chamber 27 is separated from the chamber 17 by piston 30 which is moved by fluid under pressure in the chamber 17 when the valve 19 is opened against the action of the spring 33 to close the ports 28 and 29. A groove 37 provides a restricted flow through the ports when piston 30 is in the closed position. The spring 33 may be isolated from the chamber 27 by an extension of the piston 30 carried by a central spindle. The port 28 may be off-set vertically downwardly from the port 29.
