Abstract

The apparatus of the parent Specification is modified in that a substantially constant gas pressure is maintained in the tube above the liquid level during the packaging process. The sterile gas, introduced after steam sterilisation, passes through reducing valves and through a pipe having extending downwards therefrom an elongated branch, the lower-end preferably transparent of which opens under water at a substantially constant level in a tank, also preferably transparent. Increases in the gas pressure are dispelled by blowing into the water, and decreases cause the water to rise in the branch. The liquid level in the tube is controlled by means such as that described in Specification 931,254.
