Abstract

931,203. Electrically-heated car seats. A. J. MOTTERSHEAD. Dec. 1, 1961 [Jan. 30, 1961], No. 3409/61. Class 39 (3). Heating means for a car seat comprise padding 10 within which two electric heating elements 11, 12 are disposed in sinuous form and are connected to a supply of electricity through a flexible lead 18 containing a switch 17. The padding 10 is in two parts 10a, 10b constituting a back rest part and a seat part, respectively, each part containing a tubular steel frame 13 and having a fabric cover 14 bound or sewn at its periphery 15. The cover 14 joins the two parts 10a, 10b and forms a hinge 16. The elements 11, 12 are constructed of asbestoscovered wire and may be connected in series or in parallel by the switch 17 which may also be arranged to connect one or both of the elements to the supply as desired. The electric circuit may include a thermostatic control, and the heating means may form a permanent part of the upholstery of the seat, or alternatively it may be arranged in the form of a loose cover for the seat.
