Abstract

1,011,216. Seat covers. BOSTROM CORPORATION. Sept. 18, 1964 [April 30, 1964], No. 38111/64. Heading A4M. A cover for a seat having a back-rest member hinged 14 to a seat member comprises separate seat and back cover sections 32, 58 having upwardly and downwardly directed sleeve portions 50, 77 respectively which enclose the hinge 14 with the seat cover sleeve 50 telescopically housed in the back cover sleeve 77 whereby the hinge 14 remains covered when the back-rest is tilted forwardly. The seat cover 32 (Fig. 8) comprises sewn together seat 34, bolster 36, side boxing 38 and rear 40 portions and the sleeves 50 comprise straps 42 wrapped around and secured to an upright, flexible stiffening member 51 which is itself secured to portions 40, 46 of the seat cover 32. The back cover 58 (Fig. 6) comprises sewn together central 60, bolster 62, side boxing 64 and rear 66 portions, flaps 72 being bent outwardly to complete the back cover sleeve 77 and being secured to leg portions 74 of the back portion 66. When the backrest is tilted forwardly the outer sleeves 77 slide upwardly and the stiffening member 51 is resiliently bent. The seat and back members comprise frames 18, 16 with polyurethane cushions 20, 22 moulded therearound. The cushions may be connected by integral foam portions enclosing the hinge 14. The frames 18, 16 may also carry springs moulded in the cushions.
