In a spindle for rotating a package comprising a shaft 11 and a sleeve 16 fastened to one end of the shaft, and mounted with a certain amount of play radially of the shaft at its other end, the shaft having an intermediate bearing at 12 and vibration damping means at 13, a damping sleeve 20 is positioned between the shaft and the end of the sleeve nearest the bearing. The sleeve is attached by a liner 17 screwed to the top of the spindle and is secured to a collar 18 with pins 19 for engaging a bobbin.
