[Also in Group XXXII] A railway track ballast removing machine has a plurality of plows 194, 196, 202, 198, 200, 204 detachably connected to a plurality of arcuate-shaped downwardly extending brackets, such as 130, 104, 102, which are secured to trusses 36, 48, struts 44, 46, 47 and side frames 22, 24 which side frames 22, 24 are interconnected by longitudinally spaced cross-braces 26, 28, 30, 32, 34 and are each provided with ground-engaging skids 64 and a slide 80, fixed to their upper edge, and connected to a drawbar 178. The plows may be arranged in V formation as shown, diagonally to move ballast to one side or the other of the machine or perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the machine, Fig. 8 (not shown). The skids 64, Fig. 6, may be formed by a semicircular member, an inverted V section, Fig. 9 (not shown), an inverted U section, Fig. 10 (not shown), or a T section, Fig. 11 (not shown). The slides 80, over which the sleepers 242 slide are formed by an inverted V-shaped member provided with a pointed edge 92. The draw-bar 178 is attached to a triangular frame formed by members 160, 170, 172 secured to plates 156, 158 attached, through the intermediary of plates 152, 154, to side plates 22, 24. The machine is guided by flanged wheels 186, 188 engaging the inner faces of rails 238, 240 and supported from the member 160.
