[Also in Divisions A4 and B8] Equipment for gaining access to industrial shelving comprises a braced tower 6 having on one side a vertically movable loading platform 8, said tower being supported on rails 9 which extend horizontally along lanes between the shelving and which are situated at a height of between 4/7 and 5/7 of the height of the tower from its lower end. The tower which is supported by four pairs of wheels fixed to a chassis 11, is constructed in two parts (14, 15, Fig. 2, not shown), one part (14) being above the chassis, the other part (15) being beneath the chassis and each part being mounted for pivotal movement about shafts (16, 17) on the chassis and provided with respective upper and lower lateral roller guides 18. A transfer carriage 19 which travels on rails 20 perpendicular to rails 9 has rails 21 which are at the same height as rails 9 so that the tower may be driven into the carriage and transferred from one shelving lane to another.
